The Dog Stair

This is just out of control and totally hilarious.  A full on custom built set of stairs just for the dogs.  The designers killed it here incorporating the 2 sets side by side and tying all of the interior lines together.  The shapes and patterns from structure and furniture all play off one another.  The best part, in my opinion, is the handrail.  Safety first for the pooch.  You can also check this post over at Fred Flare.

A Modern Row House

Let's check out a row house.  Typically there's not too much to them.  A straightforward, brick, rectangular design, traditional in style sharing a common wall.  Sounds super exciting, I know.  Well here in this Philadelphia neighborhood they've put a little twist on it.  A corner lot and a fresh contemporary vibe.  A little room to breathe and a little freedom push the design envelope.

Overall I really like the look of the exterior.  They managed to showcase the modern design lines while still blending it into the neighborhood with the warmer tones of the wood and slate colored brick.  On the interior they shift to an all modern feel with black and white.

Black Rail

The all black look.  A typically traditional style railing goes modern.  It's a nice design blend that's all brought together with the warm sheen of the honey colored wood floors.

Minimal, Artistic Stair and Rail

The creative, minimalistic approach with your stair system. I've seen the contemporary floating tread style before but I can't say I've ever come across the carved out, recessed hand rail. The whole ensemble blends so well with the design yet it also boasts this strong artistic quality. And check the rustic, old work bench they're using as the dining table. A sweet accent piece among the heavy modern vibe.

Paneled Glass Stair

It's usually little unique details that catch my eye when researching and exploring for projects. This time it's all about the stair rail system. This is custom at its finest. The vibe here is the mixing of both modern and traditional design elements. I love the detail and creativity in the bubbled-glass panels and the way they're tied-in by the metal cable.

Rounded Loft Design

They did a really nice job with the design space they had to work with here in this tight little loft. You just have to keep it open as much as possible, creating a nice flow. The overall feel is a little bigger with the amount of natural light here as well as the lighter colors they've incorporated.

Check the stainless steel mesh railing. A genius idea, that once again helps keep that tight space feeling open.

Killer light over the walnut dining table. It's an ash veneer wrap.

Northern California Beach Residence

A little bit of a different angle here with this beach house. It looks and feels to me like more of a rustic farmhouse. Either way, the place is kickass. This is just off the Pacific coast and little north of San Francisco. A nice open feel with the way the house sits on the site.

The exterior is clad in vertical cedar however with the color stain and the tall steel awing windows the structure has more of an industrial vibe. I also like the use of the barn style doors throughout the exterior. The galvanized steel door headers tie in well with the zinc roof.

The interior shows a little more of that coastal style. Check those crazy stairs that lead to the loft.

Butcher Block Stair

A cool little custom approach with this set of stairs. It's a butcher block type of application. They've taken approximately 20 stringers (typically you'll use 3 and then cover them with treads and risers) and sandwiched them all together forming this solid mass of stair.

Statement Staircases

Staircases aren't often thought about as statement aspects of a house. But, no one wrote a rule that says staircases have to be straight with a tiny landing. This Shaker inspired curved staircase is a bold statement, but the white walls help to tone it down.

This staircase is really cool. I love how they followed the pattern of the stairs leaving the underside exposed. It adds a ton of charm. That metal window isn't bad either.

The large landing and dark wood floors with white risers create a really cool feel within this staircase. The thin dark wood handrail along the wall creates a perfect balance to the openness of the hall.

Stairway

A stairway can make a statement. Whether you're building a custom home and designing something grand or renovating what you currently use, their are so many different things you can do with colors and materials. We went black on the newel and handrail (photo above).

I love this. A custom hand-forged iron stairway railing by Bill Peck and featured in House Beautiful April 2010. Compliments to my dear friend and client JC.

The cable railing system with the wood handrail. A modern look that we have been doing more of lately.

This is great. A coat of paint on either side and you've got your own custom (and rustic in this case) runner. A nice alternative on a budget via Design Sponge.
