Old Barn New Home
Showing some love to an old barn. She's a tired old beauty from the outside but still structurally sound so they altered a few window openings and directed their attention to the interior. Ever so budget conscious, they took a minimalist approach. A little industrial. A little rustic. Keeping the overall vibe of the barn, the space is wide open exposing beam construction. Windows are set off by their size and locations. They're set in the middle of the partition showcasing overall thickness and the exterior brick bullnose detail. A sweet detail by the architects referencing the use of the OSB plywood as not only being budget friendly but also drawing parallels to straw bales.

We Bought A Farm
It was a long, super fun summer and we capped it all off this past weekend when we finally closed on this place. We bought an old sheep farm. A local gem clad in cobblestone and dating back to the 1920's. A place we just fell in love with. Rich in character, craftsmanship and history. Everyone seems to have a story about this place.
The pasture.
The sheep barns that date back to the late 1800's.
The vintage aluminum rocker where deal got done. Stay tuned as it all unfolds. This is going to be fun.

Kitchen Styles
A modern touch mixed in with the rustic feel in this kitchen. This is from a renovated barn in England. The concept was to keep a few original characteristics while introducing some contemporary flair. Little details like the veneer of the cabinetry. The smooth, glossy finish and each unit boasting a different species of inlayed wood. The base cabinets going concave while the uppers roll the opposite and are convex.via freshome

Stone Barn Transformed
An old 15th century barn gets remodeled and goes modern. What was once much darker and closed off is now more fluid, brighter and wide open.
I like the way they've keep the rustic character and volume with the detail in the beams and rafters while incorporating little modern flashes with the loft and skylights.
A sleek transition between the formal living area and separate sleeping quarters, the glass walkway is sweet.
A cool pairing at the dining area with the funky, white chairs and the natural stain of the birch table and high-back banquette seating. Also love the surface mounted disc style lights in the kitchen. This post also runs over at my weekly guest home, Fred Flare.photos via Contemporist

Kitchen Lines
There's not a ton of room in this kitchen but I love the overall feel with all the little details. The walls and ceiling each present opportunity to show creativity. Anytime you can carry the line of the roof you're immediately opening the space. They tied the bead board pattern of the cabinets nicely with a larger, wider look on the ceiling. The outside wall becomes and immediate design element as it also follows the line exterior design. The soft, gray tile wall showcases that barn style architecture bringing another pattern into the design as well as slightly contrasting the colors.

Modern Barn
This is a cool, modern, refurbished barn with a little farmhouse flair. I like the versatility and creativity here with these oversized awning style openings. It's nice when you have that ability to maximize a ton of natural light, take full advantage of a breeze and at the same time be shaded from the high sun.
An added bonus on the inside. They have full light sliding barn doors that can be closed to keep any nasty weather out and while still allowing the light to shine through.photos via ArchDaily
