Kitchen Basic

A classic NYC loft space that presents a ton of possibilities for this kitchen.  I like the minimalistic approach in layout and cabinetry (or lack of).  It's not flashy at all but it works.  The vintage green farm sink sets it all off.  Basic yet still flows with texture.

White

Hollywood Hills.  Kickass views.  Check this reno of a 1960's gem.  A killer finished product embracing the 60's architecture and introducing this edgy modern style.

Spaces designed to seamlessly flow from interior to exterior framed in black.  You can also check this post over at Fred Flare.

Spanish Throwback

Here's a little taste of the Spanish '60's if you're looking for it.  It's the Chic and Basic Ramblas in Barcelona.  Dig it.  This place is so well done.  The designers (Lagranja) provide you with a little sampling from various issues that dominated this particular era.  Each corridor tells a story.  A little culture, a little fashion, a little food and some great style.  Simple unique design ideas (stacked luggage front desk), glorified pieces (old Spanish currency table) and loud colors provide the journey and history lesson.

White and Walnut

The white on white look is fresh and hot right now, no doubt.  It's classy.  It's fresh.  It's crisp.  I love, however, that they took the vibe of this bath in a different direction and introduced a walnut vanity.  A fresh idea.  It's still an overall modern feel, but it's the warmth of the piece that grabs just enough of your attention.

Moroccan Tile Floor

Instant character.  Take the classic, timeless subway tile and drop some Moroccan art on the floor.  A fresh idea.  Showcasing how a little accent can go a long way.

Blue Cubby

A designer gets creative with the owners love of art. A series of deep cubbies (or niches) clad in a crazy royal blue serve as the backdrop for the individual pieces. Love the way they stand out. All amped-up against the bright white and flow of natural light.

They even took the cubby idea a little further and incorporated it in the kitchen with the cooktop and sink.

Complete the overall vibe with the blue entry door too. A little balance. A little bang. You can also check this over at Fred Flare.

Victorian Detail

So here's a classic Victorian Townhouse where they embraced and highlighted the detail and warm tones of the badass woodworking by adding some loud colors and vintage pieces. You just can't paint over molding detail like this. The richness and quality in the craftsmanship is just too tough to replicate.

The place just pops. There are times when the stain work can overpower but not in this case. The design team did a great job balancing all of the color tones from the wood to the vintage art pieces.

LEGO HQ

LEGO love. Here are a few shots of LEGO's product development HQ. The idea behind the design of the space was that LEGOS themselves are not just fun for kids, but that working there is just as much fun. Vibrant and alive. An overall amazing looking environment.

How could you pass this up? Badass. A slide at home. A slide at work.

Warm Gray

A fresh little combination here in this kitchen going with more of a warmer overall feel. A prime example of the owners love of the shade of gray in this rustic stone home.

The warmer, deeper tone on the cabinets pairs so well with the honed Jet Mist granite. And to finish off the look, they've clad the backsplash in Carrara marble. It lightens the look and just slightly sets off the granite.

White Space

The white space. If you're going to roll with some heavy white from floor to ceiling, you have to balance it just right not only with a fresh, badass style but with some color. They nailed this. It works so well with those loud yet subtle tones of yellow, green, orange and blue. And the warmth of wood cabinets and sofa just brings it all home. Killer. Googie Architecture

How about a little Googie architecture? A modern, futuristic form of design influenced by the Space Ages. Freaky designs that were all about turning heads. I feel like it's a love/hate style. Here are a few of the last ones standing. Most have been destroyed over the years as many have not been that impressed.

Born in LA, the style took off with the glitz of Hollywood. It blew up on the west coast and slowly headed east. Sharp angles, swooping roof lines, huge cantilevers and over the top colors. It was all about the flash. You can also check this out at my weekly guest home, Fred Flare.

The Bowling Penthouse

What can I say about the Novogratz? Killer style. Edgy and fresh. Full of color and pattern and never afraid to mix it all up. Check this Bowling Penthouse they did in New York City. It's badass.

Subtle clean lines. Smooth, modern stainless steel tops and appliances mixed with the antique salvaged mirror and bottles.

Vintage meets modern. It's such a cool vibe. They find the way to fuse the styles. This post also ran over at my weekly guest home, Fred Flare.

Freaky Reception

Check-in on one side. Grab a cappuccino or cocktail on the other. The focal point of any lobby. The idea was to come up with a killer way to display the creative philosophy of the consulting company while incorporating and masking structural elements of the building. High energy and free flowing. It's all set off by the glossy white, web sculpture, fully equipped with LED lights. You can also check this over at my guest home, Fred Flare.

Intense Coffeehouse

A throwback to the 70's. This is a coffeehouse where the you may not need coffee. The design is certainly over the top but I love the creativity. The idea was to take the fabric and patterns on the walls and morph them into the furniture.

As always Thursday is my day over at Fred Flare. You can check this out over there too.

Recycled Shutters

A kickass interior design at this refined yet rustic Sacramento restaurant. I like the mix of contemporary and traditional materials overall, but the shutters are just out of control. They gathered 500 of these salvaged antiques and filled the ceiling and lined some of the walls. A solid statement with the balance in both patterns and colors.

Seeing Red

This rocks. It's red done just right. Loud colors will work. You just need to find that happy medium and incorporate elements that will compliment. The richness and subtle red tones in the solid wood pair well and soften next to the vibrant red. The natural warm feel and hue in the green of the granite really pulls the two together.
