On the Outside

Is it the detail, the color or the design that catches your eye?  They've kicked some ass embracing all the elements but I'm all about the crisp, warm pattern in the teak cladding.  To go a step further it's also the idea of taking a modest size structure and creatively making a statement.  Bold, white lines showcasing geometry give that subtle modern vibe while a natural stone chimney and slate roof highlight a classic feel.

Crisp, White and Narrow

 

Here's a little highlight from an NYC townhouse the measures just 16 feet in width.  Check this kitchen/nook space.  It's cozy but you really can't go wrong with the all white look.  Keep that space as bright as possible and you'll forget about the narrow, galley style.

Killer little added elements to highlight the space include the fresh yellow glass tiles of the backsplash as well as the factory style steel window off the sitting area.

It's subtle but I like the way they carried the horizontal lines throughout the space from the layout of the cabinetry to the cladding of the wood walls.

The floor to ceiling windows are flat out perfect once again helping open that space.  Bring on as much of that natural light as possible.

Simple and Secluded

White house.  White sand.  Private setting.  It's all part of this straightforward ranch style construction set off with a few fresh design elements.

The single story design is key in warmer climates along with the all white look.  You want to keep that place as cool as possible.  With that being said, they've introduced a few things to enhance the look as well as tie it to the sweet grounds.  A modern vibe gets an industrial highlight with the sliding metal door and a Polynesian feel with the thatch style covered porches.  Subtle looks that compliment and give character.

Save Some Space

A tight kitchen?  Limited counter space?  Check this fresh little design element.  Sliding cabinet doors.  Saving you space and creating interest.  Ties in well with the overall look and feel of this kitchen.  Also like the wall mounted working light between the cabinet and hood.  A simple fix providing plenty of range when working in a tight space.

Kitchen Cave

It's all about the existing elements in this kitchen cave.  There are always crazy challenges in building and design and in this example it's all about the stone work.  Classic, rustic, detailed and badass.  Old European craftsmanship you rarely come across.  This is where you embrace the conditions and get after it.

You can't hang cabinets so strategically run some base units along with an island and incorporate some freestanding pieces.  The overall lighting is weak so hide any new electrical behind base units and "wash" the walls with some up lighting.  Keep the color tones neutral and let the stone speak for itself.

Golf Tees

BlackLAB is this kickass architecture firm out of Toronto, ON.  Inside their 1000 square foot warehouse studio is this fresh wall art.  The piece was based on an aerial shot of the surrounding neighborhood.  A crazy mural crafted out of some 44,000 golf tees and constructed over a 4 month period.  Long hours of layout and hammering.

Cloud House

The cloud house.  The architects answer when asked by the client to respect the existing facade and character of the surrounding neighborhood.

And so they did just that.  A traditional style on the front half that starts to ramp up a little with the fresh, floral pattern carpet.

A subtle way to lead you to where the "cloud" addition begins.  The red kitchen.  The transitional piece to the addition.  The gathering place.  A vibrant, wide open space designed for entertaining and showing off the creative design.

Paper Bag

A New York City boutique looks to get creative and carry on their industrial vibe.  The answer was to get crazy with paper bags.  They added approximately 25,000 and the result is this freaky honeycomb pattern.

The Copper Bar

Setting the tone and getting bold with the finish material.  This is classy.  A copper clad bar in London.  Individual sheets laid in a fish scale pattern on top of a laser cut skeleton. Raised Floor

In order to make the plumbing in the bath of this old warehouse loft work they needed to raise the floor. So instead of having an inconvenient step up into the bath they extended the raised floor area out into the room and created a sitting area/reading nook. They've also accented the change in elevation with the contrasting floor colors. I love the creativity here. A common remodeling challenge that turns into a genius little design.

LEGO HQ

LEGO love. Here are a few shots of LEGO's product development HQ. The idea behind the design of the space was that LEGOS themselves are not just fun for kids, but that working there is just as much fun. Vibrant and alive. An overall amazing looking environment.

How could you pass this up? Badass. A slide at home. A slide at work.

Carved Out

The carved or plowed out look. Genius. It's subtle yet works so well just by the way they've laid the space out. Coffee House

Love coffee? Love hanging at the local coffee house? Here's a very cool place in Chicago with an obvious passion for the product and a desire to create an amazing customer experience.

Killer design from the marbled bamboo plywood throughout to the kickass original street lights that illuminate the Barrista Bar. And check the back-lit perforated panels of the bar, suggesting the coffee filtering process. Once again showcasing that freakish creativity. You can also check this post over at Fred Flare.

Camping Pods

Glorified camping. Check these custom pods. A unique, eco-friendly, custom residence for a family that grew up with a passion for the area.

Three individual, distinctive pods for bathing, sleeping and living were all fabricated off site as to not to disturb the natural surrounds and then carefully integrated with the roof structure and deck system once delivered.

Indoor/outdoor living highlighted with some killer local custom hardwoods and corrugated metal cladding.

Energy efficient by design. This place is fully equipped with rainwater storage tanks, solar hot water and electrical panels and community water recycling.

Wine Villas

A cluster of 20 villas with killer views, overlooking more than 200 acres of vineyard in Baja California, Mexico. This place is fresh. Minimal details throughout make up these pods. They've been dubbed a "deluxe" camping house.

A fresh, clean, modern vibe make up the interior. Your basic black and white with plywood accents and some cool pipe lighting.

Love the design and feel of the exterior. The idea was to clad the pods with materials that will weather and wear over time and mesh with the surrounding natural elements. A solid foundation and framing of Corten steel and local hardwood siding. A distinct look and such a peaceful setting.
